Elon is speedrunning Henry Kaiser’s career in reverse.
Kaiser began with a gravel quarry here in Spokane. He expanded to concrete, then expanded the concrete business into a general contractor for BIG government projects like Coulee Dam. Then he took advantage of the cheap electricity generated by his dams to dig into the earth again, and made aluminum his main business. In WW2 he built lots of aluminum boats for defense contracts, then decided to try automobiles. He failed there, but his son Edgar took over the auto company and turned it into a holding company for Willys, which is still a great success under new owners. Henry then branched out into the abstract business of hospitals, and Kaiser Permanente is now a huge provider of government-contracted “health” care, including here in Spokane.
Elon started at the abstract end with Paypal and another money-transfer company. He was kicked out of both, then moved backwards into automobiles and made a success. He then moved backwards into government contracting with spy satellites and brain implants for internal surveillance. Now he’s moving backwards into government construction work in Israel.
The next step should be lithium mining.
