Nieman Lab, which surveys journalism, says that several of the finalists for Pulitzer this year used AI in their work.
As usual the article concentrates on the loss of “individual” creativity. That’s not a variable, not a new situation. Major writers and reporters have always used secretaries and assistants, which were called amanuenses in earlier centuries. Every big creator has employees. AI is a secretary.
The problem with AI is that it deprives HUMAN secretaries of work. The big-name “creator” is still in the game, but now there’s much less room for beginners to learn the trade, or for lesser talents to make money.
AI is deployed by extreme Libertarians like Altman and Gates. Libertarians want the world to be solely owned by Atlas. Negative Externalities (humans other than Atlas) must be culled.
