Eureka Lake started me reading about the Odd Fellows. They have maintained their original functions pretty well for 200 years. They work for peace, tolerance, mercy, and fellowship.
A 1920 magazine from the Virginia state lodges shows how their steady purpose responded to Wilson’s brutality and unceasing propaganda. This attitude may have been widespread at the time, judging by the sudden national turn away from war and internationalism. Harding picked up the attitude and implemented some real changes in policy, until the warmonger media scandaled him.
On weapons:

If the World War had not stopped when it did, these United States of America would have gone down in history as the most cruel and barbarous republic in the civilized world.
As the OGDEN STANDARD summarizes and comments on this account: “We all have heard of the gas that was to have ended the war. Mr. Powell says it was manufactured at Willoughby, near Cleveland, and was seventy-two times more deadly than the mustard-gas of the Germans.
It is estimated that ten tons of this death-dealing poison could have destroyed all life in New York City.

On the League of Nations:
= = = = = START QUOTE:
Let us be Americans first and Internationalists second.
If by entering the League of Nations we as a nation will be stronger, and more helpful to mankind in general, without jeopardizing our safety, then let us ratify the Peace Treaty with the League of Nations as an integral part of it.
BUT if by entering the League of Nations we are taking chances of jeopardizing our sovereignty, and complicating our relations with the world in general, then let us without any cowardly quibbling renounce the League of Nations and declare a separate peace with Germany and forget it.
This is a republic, and the people rule (or will know the reason why), and if any ambitious government official, be he a Representative, Senator or President, gets in the way — then so much the worse for HIM.
America, instead of plunging into the whirlpool to rescue its neighbors, can aid them best by throwing out the life-line and keeping its own feet on solid ground.
By meeting as free and independent equals, the nations can agree upon common action that will insure the perpetuation of the world’s liberty.

In 1946 Deepstate learned from the bounceback after Wilson. Instead of uniform one-sided propaganda, they use Machiavellian division now. Each side sees the “other side” as traitors. Symmetrical scapegoating saves energy and avoids real rebellion.
