In the 50s and 60s, every “fact” we learned in school or heard on TV was wrong. Some were wrong by omission or distortion, most were flatout diametrical bullshit. We should have listened to our grandparents instead of our teachers.
Maybe the most damaging “fact”, emphasized constantly in school “science” and “health” classes: Don’t exercise after eating. Wait at least 30 minutes.
Lethally wrong. Immediately after eating is the BEST time for a walk. It activates the gut, processing food and letting out farts. It loosens up tense muscles and improves the mood.
Other cultures were never deluded by our “facts”. I suspect the real secret of the Mediterranean diet is what Italians do after eating, not what they eat.
