Since the Bush-Trump torture chamber of 2020 I’ve been peeling away from Machiavellian shit. Trying to pay near-zero attention to politics and media noise. Focusing on making beauty and order where possible, trying to do the right thing though it’s never rewarded and usually punished. I’ve also been peeling away subscriptions from writers who show signs of the Political Disease on either “side”. Aiming my money at people who make beauty, whether it’s physical art or helpful words.
A favorite physical artist is a letterpress typographer in Indiana, who calls his company Hoosier Type Co. I enjoy talking hot lead with him at times.
He does business the old-fashioned way, STRICTLY avoiding politics of all kinds, just letting his work shine.
I bought one of his products through Etsy. It’s a little Book Of Hours with 50 pages, each containing a few paragraphs about the creative process. When I’m hanging around waiting for food to cook or whatever, I open it at random and get a new thought-starter.
In other words it’s the paper equivalent of a social media algorithm, if the algorithms had been designed by humans instead of alien tech monsters.
Or in other other words, it’s a condensation of the best parts of newspapers, the features and fillers.
