Via Daily Mail. Aiden Pleterski, a Canadian bitcoin swindler, supposedly made the mistake of swindling the wrong people who then supposedly kidnapped and tortured him. This part of the story might be real but sounds more like a publicity stunt.
Unsupposedly he was running an especially stupid Ponzi. He didn’t bother to pay back the first investors, just kept taking. He somehow spent $29 million on branded crap, which didn’t protect him from serious people.
He spent $500k to rent a warehouse where he stored the ACTUAL PHYSICAL CURRENCY stolen from his bitcoin idiot suckers. Perfect symbol. The suckers thought Aiden was a math whiz dealing in superspecial algorithms (really just ordinary arrays with expensive brands) who would manipulate the algorithms to generate exponential increases in the magical mystery dust. In fact he was converting their ordinary fiat digital money into ACTUAL PHYSICAL CASH.
Pictures show him in various situations, wearing ordinary clothes, and driving an ordinary modern “vehicle”, a baleen whale on buggy wheels. This “vehicle”, identical to everything else on the road, is allegedly a McLaren sports car. What makes it sports? I guess the label. All of his other possessions are also labeled, with names that apparently signal wealth, though I don’t recognize any of them.
Young man, leave the gangstering to born gangsters like Trump, who are willing and able to blackmail and torture the entire world. Serious criminals (ie politicians) know what will happen if they incur Trump’s wrath.
Or learn from Mickey Cohen, who knew how to make his possessions protect him.
