Nikki Haley is using an old political platitude while claiming to be non-platitudinous. Bring us together! Uniter, not divider! She seems to mean it, but she’s not dancing about it, not giving us the vector to the honey or the terrain we can expect along the way to the honey.
We can envision part of the honey. We know how the MEDIA looked and worked when the MEDIA was not allowed to create false partisan divisions. The Fairness Doctrine was GOOD CENSORSHIP. Newscasters and soap operas and comedians had to STRICTLY AVOID partisan divisions. A comedian who wanted to mock politicians had to mock ALL policitians at once. In other words he had to tell the fucking truth.
The vector to the FD destination is simple in concept because the regulations are still available. Just place them back in the lawbook and give FCC enough manpower and budget to enforce them. The terrain is the problem. Since 1980, media and politics are hopelessly entangled. Tech tyrants own the conversation and the government. The SOLE PURPOSE of tech tyrants is dividing us and grinding us through finer and finer sieves.
The loss of QE is starting to break up the tangle, as media faces the weird alien incomprehensible necessity of pleasing customers instead of burning trillions of free dollars to jack up Holy Share Value. Media has no vector pointing to customers, and can’t envision profit as honey. Media has no idea how to do business or seek a profit.
