Article in Catholic Thing discusses adapting to a smaller church. The stats are clear and drastic. Catholics are dying and leaving fast, except in Mexican parts of town. And even there, evangelical churches are taking over from Rome.

Example: In my working-class mixed race neighborhood, there are four Evangelical churches within easy walking distance. Each of the churches is closer than the nearest store or the nearest bus stop in those directions. I can walk north, east, west, or south, and reach God before I reach groceries.

Each of these churches appears to be busy, not abandoned. Why? Evangelical churches are Christian.

The cited article seems to miss the basic problem, blaming “clericalism”, whatever the fuck that is. The authors suggest that the handful of remaining members should be ready to take on more authority in running the daily affairs of the church.

Bud Light’s problem won’t be solved by store owners taking on more authority. The problem is that the company is offering Woke instead of Beer.

Rome’s problem won’t be solved by lay leaders taking on more authority. The church is offering Woke instead of Christ.
