Other independents who also should know better always fall for a faker named Kennedy.
The pattern isn’t orthogonal. The leaders are not right populist faker vs left populist faker. The leaders are generic right populist vs a KENNEDY.
What’s the difference between the suckers? CASTE.
The suckers who fall for a KENNEDY are all high status hippie types.
CASTE IS INNATE AND PERMANENT.

The orthogonal counterpart of Trump should be Bernie. Both were New Yorkers, both made the same points in speeches, both loyally served Deepstate after the speeches were done. Trump appealed to working-class Christians, Bernie appealed to working-class seculars and Jews. Among current ‘independents’, nobody at all is supporting Bernie.
