Snobascope

Kirn retweeted this item from a film snob who saw only the lens in Carlson’s “I’ll be baaaaack” clip.

Shoutout to my bro @justingum (we worked together on Hoaxed w/ @scooter_downey)
He shot this clip using anamorphic lenses to give it that beautiful epic feel.
I’ve seen several film snobs triggered that Tucker would dare to be this aesthetic.

Looking it up, an anamorphic lens has a super-wide aspect ratio, invented for tank viewfinders in WW1 and used for Cinemascope.

Others commented on the perfect lighting.

Well, I’m not a film snob. I don’t know from lenses or epic or aesthetic or lighting.

I only saw the furniture in the background. Carlson has an old-fashioned pivoting newspaper holder, similar to the racks formerly used in libraries. He must have a librarian on staff who keeps it stocked with the latest in print.

In other words, I’m a printing snob.

Carlson knows exactly what he’s doing, appealing to a wide aspect ratio of traditions with a traditional approach to truth.
