New phenomenon

This month has been constantly convective, with weird rotating patterns of popup storms every night at my bedtime. I’m losing sleep and getting grumpy and tired and dysfunctional.

Tonight’s weird rotation produced an interesting phenomenon near Moses Lake, shown and described by the Weather Bureau. It’s a mini-tornado that doesn’t move and doesn’t appear to rotate. I’ve never seen it before and never heard the name:

A landspout is a tornado with a narrow, rope-like condensation funnel that forms while the thunderstorm cloud is still growing & there is no rotating updraft – the spinning motion originates near the ground.

Needless to say, it’s right next to a farm shed. Mini tornadoes love to eat farm sheds. Puppy Chow develops strong teeth for adult chores like gobbling up trailer parks and brick buildings.
