Restitution?

BBC thinks Holmes should pay restitution to her “victims”.

Crap. Her investors are ALL super-rich demons, including Kissinger himself. A million is like a penny for them. If we’re trying to create abstract justice, we should simply leave the pennies unrefunded.

At first I was ambiguous about this case. By now I’m absolutely and fully sympathetic** with Elizabeth. She was driven by the classic Lost Empire Syndrome, trying to restore her family’s dissipated fortune.

Her machine ACTUALLY WORKED in its basic version. It was not a fraud. She could have managed a small and profitable company. Instead, she got carried away with success, probably pushed by the demon investors, and expanded the idea beyond its working form into a size and scale that couldn’t work.

** For clarity, this doesn’t mean I would like her. She’s clearly a hard-driving control freak, not a nice person. But she’s not a criminal in any legal or moral sense.
