Branching from previous item about the two Cindys.
I figured out the truth when I stopped listening to Rush’s VERSION of what the Cindys (and Naomi) said, and started reading the ACTUAL TEXT of what they said. It was NOT THE SAME THING AT ALL.
Previous AHAS always came from finding a primary unmediated source.
History and media have totally memoryholed our 1918 invasion of Russia. When I ran across it in a sideways fashion through an obscure Signal Corps document, I was shocked. After that I started looking for other ‘sideways’ sources of truth about Russia and found them.
I’ve been listening to pre-1950 radio for a long time, and it’s a CONSTANT primary source for what people were actually thinking in those days. Both current sides wildly distort the reality.
The WPA books give an unbiased picture of the old tribes, now memoryholed. Never heard it in school, never hear it from media.
I bumped into another primary source when I read the data sheets for the 1940 census in familiar neighborhoods. There was a thriving black upperclass in Enid, and most blacks owned their homes. The black upperclass was physically wiped out by integration, and our memory of the black upperclass has been wiped from the books.
I went along with most of environmentalism until I happened to notice one graph in an old National Geographic. The graph said that CO2 was a trailing variable but the text interpreted it backwards to say that CO2 was the controlling variable.
Best of all: Hubbard totally controlled media coverage of his cult through lawsuits and owning most of the influential class. There was no way of knowing what his supposedly “auditing” E-meter did, until I built one, tried it on myself, and painfully found that it was a panic-causing nerve stimulator, not just a measurement tool. It would have been a controllable torture device. Want the pain of the “measurement” to stop? Say the right thing.

The historians who distort the primary sources always tell us that primary sources are important. It’s a trite rule, but they don’t want us to try it.
Carver as always:
LOOK ABOUT YOU.
TAKE HOLD OF THE THINGS THAT ARE HERE.
TALK TO THEM.
LET THEM TALK TO YOU.

Contra: In the specific area of history, the major problem is media and school curricula, not necessarily books written by historians. Angie Debo was a professional historian. Same with grammar. What we “learned” in “English” class was diametrically wrong, but accurate descriptions of English were common in academia at the time.
