I wrote my usual comment about the nonsense of “rights”. For some reason the usual comment caused a new thought today.
The usual comment: “Rights” are nonsense, not found in the Bible. “Rights” were created by aristocrats to grant themselves more privileges than they already have.
New thought: I’ve always wondered why this particular bit of nonsense was necessary. Why not just declare openly and flatly that workers are shit?
Looking at it from the other angle makes it clear.
“Rights” replaced duties. Under the old contract, which we now call “slavery”, BOTH SIDES HAD DUTIES. Workers were supposed to give their labor, and aristocrats were supposed to give LIFETIME SUPPORT to the workers.
Under the new contract, which we now call “freedom”, both sides have “rights”. Now workers CAN’T COMPLAIN that the aristocrats have ABANDONED THEIR DUTIES. The new arrangement appears to be balanced, and appears (at least in capitalist propaganda) to be advantageous to the worker. You have the “right” to starve, and the boss has the “right” to let you starve.
CAN’T COMPLAIN is the key.
