Both “parties” have fallen into total personality cults. Each side has several credible opponents who can make valid arguments against the Lord Of The Cult. But the opponents never oppose.
In real competition, product brands or church denominations or political parties offer SOMETHING DIFFERENT. There is always a dominant brand. Each non-dominant brand offers a feature or an experience or a talent that is NOT FOUND in the dominant brand.
Competition in politics disappeared around 1990. Perot and Buchanan were the last gasps of real opposition. The 2012 election was grotesquely anti-competitive. Romney, the AUTHOR of Obamacare, ran against Obama, the IMPLEMENTER of Obamacare. You don’t like Obamacare? Elect me and make it even worse!
The D primaries in 2016 and 2020 had a genuine variety of candidates, but none of them dared to oppose Hillary and Biden. In the end all of them firmly supported the Lord Of The Cult.
This year’s Repoofs have a wide variety of personalities and experiences, but none of them are even trying to berate Trump’s personality or performance. Each is battling to IMITATE Trump and FORGIVE Trump and SUPPORT Trump. Vivek’s sole brand is “I WILL PARDON OUR LORD AS SOON AS I AM ELECTED.”
This is crazy to put it mildly.

Later thought: The D cult doesn’t have a leader. Ds formerly worshipped JFK, but they certainly don’t worship Biden. They tolerate him. Both cults are solely about Trump, one treating him as God and the other treating him as Satan…. BUT the D cult agrees with everything Trump actually did.
Trump gave us lockdowns and strangulation and needles. That’s all he actually did in 4 fucking years.
He made noises on other topics, and some of the noises were fairly sane; but he didn’t ACT on those noises.
The R cult is neutral on what Trump actually did. I hear very few complaints about lockdowns and muzzles and needles, probably because Bezos got infinitely richer as a result of the lockdowns. Repoofs are happy when Bezos gets richer, and unhappy when Bezos has to pay one penny in tax. That’s all.
