I’ve always resisted the notion that Trump is a weak leader, pulled and pushed by advisors. He looked more like a psychopath determined to cause maximum harm.
A couple of recent articles, if they can be believed, are turning my diagnosis from psychopath to professional criminal, from Mad to Bad.
This article says he misses his old mentor Roy Cohn, and is looking for a new mentor to shore up his evil side.
Today’s article says that his advisors were pulling and pushing in different directions on the pile of dossiers from the National Archive. He had the chance to send the papers back without prosecution, and his lawyers correctly advised him to take the deal and pay the two dollars. He didn’t listen to the lawyers; instead he listened to Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch and some other advisors who wanted him to go for broke.
If these items are true, they fit the professional criminal perfectly. He always seeks the dishonest way of doing every task, as opposed to the psychopath who always chooses maximum pain and mayhem.. He is wildly overconfident about his chances of success, as opposed to the psychopath who realistically knows how to destroy every obstacle. He will always go for broke.
Fitton’s motives should have been obvious to Trump. Fitton makes money by pursuing guaranteed lost causes. Like a religious leader who loses the apocalypse lottery repeatedly, he knows how to keep the suckers giving.
It’s also possible that Trump the psychopath is planting these articles to muddy the waters. So far the balance isn’t decisive either way.
