Yet Another Vague Observation (YAVO)

One of Kirn’s commenters was recommending the All-In Podcast as a relatively non-partisan source. I tried listening to an episode and turned it off after 20 seconds. These are RICH FUCKHEADS of the tech-tyrant species. They were apparently joshing each other in Bro Style, talking about ??doing?? some ??things?? and ??going?? to some ??places??. Every single noun and verb was totally alien to my life. I couldn’t even tell if the nouns were nouns and the verbs were verbs.

In the last few years the world of the rich has zoomed out beyond the event horizon in a literal sense. The rich are black holes, sucking in all money and letting nothing escape. They receive multi-millions for just being in rich places and doing rich things. One of the Kardashians was paid $47 million for wearing a certain brand of clothes at a wedding. Just wearing, not verbally endorsing or advertising the clothes.

It appears that non-rich folks are starting to recognize this total interplanetary alienness. Ten years ago everyone wanted to be Buffett or wanted to be Gates. I don’t hear this type of ontological yearning now. Ordinary people want to see Buffett crushed.

The old IWW (Wobblies) worked from one basic premise: The working class and the robber barons are totally contrary, with all interests perfectly opposed. I didn’t go along with the idea in 1990. Now I do.

In short, meritocracy is gone, and good fucking riddance.
