We have a nice clear contrast between two strikes currently underway.
The Hollywood writers are striking for classic and understandable labor reasons. Too much unpaid work and AI threats to skill-estate. They may have picked the wrong TIME for a strike, since the directors and actors unions have already gained new contracts without striking. But the REASONS are clear to outsiders.
The Reddit community is striking for inscrutable and immoral reasons. The platform started to switch from ad-based to subscription-based. QE is gone, so the infinite flow of free counterfeit no longer sustains the Everything For Free mentality. Customers need to start being customers, not products, which is HOW BUSINESS IS SUPPOSED TO WORK. EFF was wrong and immoral to begin with.
In other words, the Reddit strikers are thinking like robber barons. They are expecting to get free labor from the platform.
