Vaguely related while I’m thinking of this topic… Oil development is not really being halted by the enviros. Both sides want us to think it is. The recent donnybrook over the Keystone Pipeline is a perfect example of a Shared Lie. Both sides told us that the protests were intended to stop construction of the pipeline. R said this was bad, D said this was good. I was fooled by the R side, and wrote a passionate item about the need for pipelines. In fucking fact the dispute was not about the pipeline itself, but only about a shortcut or bypass that would have made the pipeline more efficient. The Keystone Pipeline has been carrying oil for many years. Nobody stopped it.
