Dubious, obvious

Three hot decisions by the Supremes today. One is dubious, the second wildly obvious, the third meaningless.

Dubious: They said Biden couldn’t forgive student loans. There’s no principle involved at all. Student loan programs already include forgiveness when the student meets certain conditions. If you become a teacher in a poor city, the loan goes away. Banks and governments ALWAYS forgive rich fuckheads when they walk away from a loan or a building. Rich fuckheads NEVER have to pay anything at all.

STUDENTS ARE IN AN IMPOSSIBLE SITUATION CREATED BY GOVERNMENT LOCKDOWNS, so it makes perfect sense for government to release the FALSE IMPRISONMENT that government created. Government stole two years of education. Now it wants to refund the money charged for the nonexistent service. This is good business and good economic justice. (If students refused to pay in normal conditions, forgiveness would be wrong.)

Wildly obvious: A web designer can’t be forced to create a design that violates her moral code. This is just classic Freedom of the Press. A publisher can never be forced to publish a piece for any reason. If you approach Playboy Press asking them to publish an evangelical tract for Pat Robertson, Playboy will refuse. Vice versa, if you approach Tyndale House asking them to publish a book of raunchy porn, they will refuse. If you ask a baker to install a bathtub, she would refuse. If you ask a plumber to bake a cake, he would refuse. No sane person would bother to make those requests. It’s a waste of time and effort. This has NOTHING TO DO with refusing service based on the internal characteristics of the customer.

Meaningless: College affirmative action. Colleges will ALWAYS find ways to select their students. Colleges are not schools. Colleges are status certifiers. A degree is a title of nobility, not a record of learning. Everyone knows it, nobody says it. This decision will have no practical effect on college admissions, and nobody will really give a shit.
