One of the Substackers went back to the martyrdom of Magufuli, and mentioned that Dlamini, the prime minister of Swaziland, also died “of” “the” “virus” in late 2020. I hadn’t heard this before. Checking BBC, it’s true.
Unlike Magufuli, this martyrdom is sort of indirectly personal for me. Back in the ’90s one of the Dlamini royal family was a grad student in speech and hearing where I was doing research. She was an actual Princess but didn’t act like one. We had some good conversations about Africa, and I learned about the enlightened modern leaders in some of those countries, especially on the east side of Africa.
