Where isn’t the beef?

DailyMail has an article on the countries that eat the most vegies. The chart is hard to read, includes only the top 20, and is calibrated in kilograms per year. I’ve translated it into pounds per year per person, and included the top 100 broken up in 10s. This seems to be measuring the ‘color’ vegies, not including bread and other starches.

I’ve starred the countries that were considered ‘first world’ before 1990. USA is near the top of these, with most of Europe well down the list.

India surprised me. I figured it would be #1, but it’s #68.

The top 20 includes a LOT of small countries that were part of Yugoslavia or USSR before 1990. Still, there’s a nice clear pattern. 16 of the top 20 are mostly or entirely Muslim, with an emphasis on Ottoman influence. Halal is healthy.
