This is pure fraud. Computers have been optimizing routes for 60 fucking years, long before the current generation of “creative” AI. The traveling salesman problem has always been a major part of computer science, a major force in developing PREDICTIVE big data, and it was mostly solved in the ’50s.
Here’s a 1969 book on the subject.
This new company is offering to use the new fashionable faddish Altman AI, which gets shit wrong routinely and intentionally.
Really can’t blame the company; according to Krystal, their “software” has been tried and rejected in several different cities. Each time the routes were bizarre nonsense, and each time the drivers TRIED TO TELL the admins that the routes were crazy. The admins ignored the drivers and went ahead with implementation.
The one constant in this mess is that school admins have ALWAYS been stupid. My dad used to deal with them as a teacher and then as a supervisor of student teachers. He often told me stories about the wooden-headed idiocy of superintendents. Admins will ALWAYS adopt the latest edufad, and will ALWAYS stick to it despite protests and failures.
