Rob Lowe’s latest piece at the Ankler is about the total disconnection from SKILL at all levels. Hollywood doesn’t pay for skill, it pays for the PRESENCE OF A BODY. In pre-tech eras when the studios were more functional, executives and writers and actors were all expected to use the SKILLS appropriate to their position.
Executives needed to get along with the workers, respect the workers, and train a successor. Nobody was expected to be on the job 24/7, because wasted time is wasted skill. A sleepless worker is stupid.
The change clearly applies to the show biz of politics as well. Our LITERAL zombie senators and presidents are BODIES, not functional skilled living humans.
The bureaucrats and staffers who really run the government don’t WANT live puppets with minds. Their power is best served by passive inanimate puppets who appear on stage and move when the bureaucrats pull the strings. When the staffers stop pulling, the puppets freeze.
