One problem

This interview focuses on the AI part of the Hollywood strike.

The actors are missing one important point about the nature of copyright. They want each actor to own the copyright on his own image and voice and behavior. Copyright was NOT meant to defend one author against a publisher. One author can never mobilize enough lawyers and private investigators and blackmailers to defend his “rights”. Copyright was ALWAYS meant to serve the interest of publishers. Copyright is meant to maintain a localized and temporary monopoly for profit. It’s not about “ownership” or “authorship”.

If SAG wants to form a useful defense, SAG would have to become a publisher. The union would hold the copyrights for its members, charge the studios to use the images, and give the actors part of the profit. The union could collectively pay a large enough army of lawyers and blackmailers to deter the studios.

The syndicate model seems appropriate. Syndicates were descended from Patent Insides.
