Another IP situation

Here’s another nonstandard copyright situation, in connection with food instead of sewing. An online recipe writer complains about copiers who grab all the credit and money.

= = = = = START QUOTE:

This wasn’t a case where someone just had a similar recipe or idea — she had three recipes (that I know of, at least), that were essentially a direct rip of mine. She used the same ingredients and an almost identical amount of each ingredient, so it was quite obvious she had seen mine. I also happen to know that each of these recipes was something I came up with on my own and did not use anything else as a reference. She also follows me, so that was even more confirmation.

= = = = = END QUOTE.

Of course this is the real purpose of copyrights and patents. IP is NOT meant to protect the individual creator, it’s designed for publishers and manufacturers who have enough money and lawyer armies to deploy the weapon. Big companies and big influencers brazenly steal the work of small inventors, and then use copyrights and patents to block other small creators.

Smaller creators have to be content with monetizing on a small scale without the weapons of IP, which is fortunately somewhat easier now in the digital world.
