Rings a bell

Biles at MindMatters connects the transhumanist and Effective Altruist movements to the writings of Teilhard.

Teilhard was a French Jesuit who believed that human evolution, nudged along with tech, was actually the vehicle for bringing about the kingdom of God, and that the melding of humans and machines would lead to an explosion of intelligence, which he dubbed the omega point. Our consciousness would become “a state of super-consciousness” where we merge with the divine and become a new species.”

This rings a loud bell. In 1973 one of my hippie/enviro friends joined a cult called Ecumenical Institute. The cult was obviously Jesuit-like, covering the world with missionaries. He tried to convert me with long illustrated lectures of Teilhard thoughts. I couldn’t see the point. The philosophy looked vague and ethereal to me. How was this supposed to organize your thinking or solve problems?

I could see that EI smelled like Deepstate. The cult had plenty of money, and it was able to cross borders easily without worrying about passports and hostile nations. (See Hikers.)

EI was planting churches around the world, spreading the Tech Gospel in preparation for later more militaristic battles by WEF.

EI spawned EA and AI.
