If it provided a resonant chamber, it could emphasize some frequencies to compensate for noise-induced loss.
I’m more certain that it would help suppress rumbling of the tensor tympani muscle. The best cure for hiccups is to hold the diaphragm steady so it doesn’t feel the need to wiggle. Holding the outer air column steady would ‘reassure’ the tensor tympani in the same way.
