Hollywood isn’t trying to regain our trust. They’re listening to this grotesque academic asshole. He correctly identifies the Four Horsemen of the AIpocalypse as Thiel, Zuck, Xlon and Andreesen.
Why does he think they’re evil? NOT because they squash every business they encounter. NOT because they steal every idea they can grab. NOT because they are trying to wipe out civilization. He thinks the Four are evil because they don’t squash ENOUGH peasants. He thinks they’re evil because they don’t do enough for Global Warming, the pet project of the Four. He thinks they’re evil because they FAIL TO CONDEMN every rational thought, leaving a few sane thoughts uncondemned. He thinks they’re evil because Facebook allowed one ad by a consultant firm that FAILED TO CONDEMN Russia.
Jesus H Fucking Christ. Classic PLUPONENT. Fake opposition that openly supports everything the alleged villains are doing.
If Hollywood wanted to regain the trust of the people, they’d listen to what UAW leader Fain says. He speaks purely FOR the working men and purely AGAINST the billionaire monsters. More importantly they’d listen to what Fain DOESN’T SAY. He doesn’t get into any of those distracting issues that are designed to help the billionaire monsters. He sticks to the basic point of aristocrats killing peasants.

Footnote: I went back to the 2016 Nieman Labs survey on trust in journalism that I quoted before, and found the ONE VALID COMMENT among the hundred predictions and advices. The vast majority were pluponents, accusing journalism of being INSUFFICIENTLY EVIL. A few were just technical, talking about changes in digital vs print or audio vs video.
Here’s Matt Waite, the one sane journalist.

You won’t fix this. Any of this. Not in 2017. Not soon.
You won’t fix trust in news because…
You won’t fix how news gets made because…
You won’t fix how you hire senior leadership to diversify your thinking because…
You won’t fix what stories are selected because…
You won’t change who you hire to do the stories because…
You won’t fix the ways that stories are written to be more transparent and more directly sourced to give people a reason to trust you because…
You won’t fix the lack of training in newsrooms that could retrain reporters to source stories more explicitly because…
You won’t fix the content management systems to require sourcing on stories to be transparent and structured and visible because…
You won’t fix the technology leadership in the company because…
You won’t fix the thinking that makes you believe you’re not a technology company because…
You won’t fix the belief that trust and fake news is Google and Facebook’s problems and not yours because…
You still don’t believe you’re the problem.
Wake me when you do.

And of course he was right. Nothing has changed since 2016 except that sane people are paying even LESS attention to the monsters now. And that’s the good part. Most folks have figured it out now.
