True and important. I noticed this as a child but didn’t associate it with broader culture. I thought it was just the way our family did things. We moved from Oklahoma to super-Yankee Kansas when I was 6. When we were leaving our Okie relatives, or when they were leaving us after a visit, this is what happened.
In warm high-contact cultures, maintaining the relationship matters more than Getting Shit Done. Among cold low-contact Yankees and Krauts, relationship is an alien non-concept. Making money is the only thing in the world.
