Not a paradox

Nice sharp observation from Wesley Smith, who often writes for the Intelligent Design websites.

Here’s the dirty secret of the euthanasia movement. They don’t really care about “safeguards.” They put them in, such as they are, to gull a wary public–and then the protections are immediately redefined as “obstacles” to “death with dignity” and eligibility expanded over time.

Deepstate applies exactly the same steps when it prevents the death of killers. Capital punishment used to be swift and sure. Very slowly and imperceptibly, the punishment has been postponed by self-appointed “obstacles” and “safeguards”. In order to work around the self-appointed obstacles, each prisoner must have many years of required appeals, and the acceptable methods of execution are narrowed down step by step. Each method is newly defined as “inhumane” and must be halted.

Death sentences are now life in prison with deluxe accommodation.

In some states and most of Europe the movement has taken the next step, placing “safeguards” and “obstacles” around long sentences for killers and monsters. Each year becomes redefined as “inhumane” until finally no punishment at all is allowed.

Not a paradox. The goal of the movement is perfectly consistent. Enrich the rich and starve the poor. Imprison and strangle the innocent, and free the psychopaths so they can fill positions of power. Disemploy creative skills and honest labor, and reward destructive skills and cheating.
