Hard shell

Bloomberg discusses an unexpected development. Junk food, which has gradually become unfashionable in the West, is taking new territory in India. The target is turning out to be highly susceptible, and convenience stores are starting to crowd out the traditional street vendors of homemade fast food.

Maybe India will learn from this. India is the world’s best source of non-aggression and non-intervention, and the Gandhian tradition was STRICTLY self-sufficient. After 1980 India started to loosen up its protectionist laws, letting the aggressive West invade with cars and call centers. Maybe it’s time to rebuild the old walls.

Self-sufficiency requires a hard shell, a moated castle. An organism or country can’t keep its own ways of doing things when aggressive microbes or countries can invade and steal or subvert at will.
