Vaudeville isn’t dead!

A nice Vaudevillian exchange on Twitter:

The AMPTP’s “last best final” proposal would allow them to body scan performers making *more than minimum* in TV and features. Performers would get paid once. But studios would be allowed to profit off their AI likenesses without their approval forever — even after they’re dead.

Ever Carradine, granddaughter of John, replied:

I’ve always wanted to work with my grandfather!

Another riposted:

Me too! I’ve always wanted to work with your grandfather!

Aside from jokes, this involves a basic rule which the unions understand correctly. The rule applies to all IP, books or movies or patents or software.

When you have a choice between lump sum and royalty, ALWAYS take the royalty.

The rule can be broken when you’re pretty sure the publisher or producer isn’t going to last long. If the company looks fragile or flighty, take the one payment now before they disappear or go bankrupt.
