The local Weather Bureau posted a map of mountain snowpack. This is an El Nino winter, blessedly warmish up to now, so the snowpack is properly below average.

It’s a good use of graphics, nice distinct colors and readable labels. It reminded me instantly of the kingdoms and duchies and bishoprics of Europe in the 1500s. Spokane is in the Kattegat.

Nations and ethnicities were determined by natural borders of climate and topography. Different people were best suited to different types of farming and housing. Only snowpack is determined by nature now.
