Parkinson loop

SpokaneNews continues posting the ‘worst’ of the drug overdose cases. There are many overdoses each day, and the official requirements for response are making the problem worse. A couple of harsh comments illustrate how it works.

I started listening to the scanner everyday when I have time. Mind blowing how many OD’s there are. What’s sad is that Narcan is only feeding the problem. Does it save lives? Yes- sometimes, but it’s become an addicts crutch. It’s not solving the addiction problem. These people need help, not Narcan 2 times a day. It’s like if there was an obesity drug that reversed obesity; would this make you eat more or less?? People would eat more knowing that this drug will reverse it. Same goes for Narcan. Addicts know it’s readily available and they don’t think twice about taking drugs. This also pulls our emergency response people away from other things way too often. Sad!!!

I have called in many over the years. I sit and watch as the crew arrive. 2-3 police cars, firetruck 4-5 personnel, AMR 2 paramedics, and I don’t know how many medical staff at the hospital. That is at least 8 plus medical. WHO IS PAYING FOR ALL THIS? WHAT IS SPOKANE’S OFFICAL BUDGETED LINE ITEM? Now, if they have a budgeted line item, THEN, they have an estimated number of OD’s they are expecting.

Every problem has an official “response” requirement, which always wastes time without solving the problem. Parkinson as fucking always. Always increase the budget and workforce and power of the agencies, shape the “response” to guarantee increasing USE of the agency so we can increase the budget and workforce and power even more next year and next year and next year…… Failure and destruction are the GOALS of an agency.
