Long overdue

College athletics is on the verge of turning honest with union protection. This is WAY overdue.

I remember a class project in a college debate class in 1967, where we researched the money aspect of college athletics. The situation was already crystal clear. College athletes were bringing in BIG money for the university and the TV networks, and they weren’t RECEIVING real money for their labor. They got scholarships and under-the-table payments and free cars. They also engaged in betting to bring in more money. If they had been paid straightforwardly like TV stars, none of the sneaky stuff and criminal connections would have been enticing.

Olympic athletes are also fully professional while maintaining the dishonest facade of amateurism. There’s plenty of money in less famous sports as well. One of the Penn State engineering students in the ’80s made a living wage by driving around to cities and entering their annual Runs (like Spokane’s Bloomsday). He won or placed often enough to cover his living expenses.

PAY FOR VALUE always works better. Bilateral trade deals work better for both sides than globalist “free trade”. Government by profit, like TVA, works better than government by debt.
