Desistance means depriving the system of your talents and resources. It does NOT mean getting into the system to obstruct things. Internal obstruction is a game that accomplishes less than nothing.
I figured this out a LONG time ago when some of my semi-hippie friends joined the military to “reform the system from inside”. I knew they wouldn’t make a difference, but didn’t argue. Enlisting in the Navy or Air Force was the best of the available choices, as long as you were realistic about the purpose. You’d gain skills and discipline, get a head start on a career, and probably wouldn’t have to wade through the jungle.
Basic rule:
Unless you’re already in a top position, you can’t reform the system from inside.
It makes me sad when somebody I admire dives into a guaranteed failure. Again I wish I could argue .. Please! Don’t go there! It won’t work! … but I’ve learned from experience that everyone has to learn from experience. I’ve been on the receiving end of such advice too often, and never listened.
Art Robinson, who could have been an inspirational leader against the “virus” holocaust, decided to reform from within by joining the Oregon legislature. He stopped defending real science and switched to playing the idiot Repooflican games about taxes and “woke”. Now he and several other Repoof legislators have been banned from running again because they tried typical Repoof obstructionist games that were specifically against the rules of the legislature. (The rules were made long before the holocaust, so it wasn’t an ex post facto trick.)
DeSantis made the same switch in an even more puzzling way. He had already been using his TOP POSITION in Florida to protect his people from Trump’s holocaust. Then he decided to aim higher, and immediately stopped defending real science and switched to taxes and “woke”. He found out that nobody wanted to support him. His previous admirers (including me) abandoned him, and the big donors wouldn’t tolerate real science.
When you get inside the system at the bottom, EVERYTHING YOU SAY AND DO WILL BE USED AGAINST YOU. Your efforts will not change anything; you’ll only be ignored or scandalized or pushed out, depending on the seriousness of your dissent.
Only a TOP-LEVEL official who switches direction can solve problems. Powell is the perfect example. Until 2021 he went along with the counterfeiters. After he was chairman of the board, he switched to doing the right thing.
