Who are they fooling?

The current disconnect on economics is weird. At this point many of the ‘establishment’ types recognize that ordinary people are suffering. Even Bloomberg News, heart of the ‘establishment’, describes reality pretty well.

Meanwhile, the alleged ‘leftist’ and ‘radical’ economists stubbornly stick to the crazy official numbers. An article by Dean Baker in the Nation asks why people are so unhappy when “the economy” is the BEST EVER! And it’s all due to Our Lord And Saviour Joseph Biden, who personally lifted all jobs to the moon and personally insured that everything is perfect! Only RUSSIAN_AGGRESSION TERRORIST_SUBVERSION makes people falsely believe that they can’t pay rent and can’t buy food. If people would stop listening to TRUMP_PUTIN they would recognize that starving in the cold is BEAUTIFUL AND WONDERFUL.

In previous eras the disconnect was reversed. Establishment types kept repeating “The fundamentals of the economy are sound”, while radicals were observing and measuring reality. That’s historically normal.

Seriously, who are they fooling? Normal people don’t read The Nation, and normal people don’t watch Bloomberg. Neither side is persuading anyone. Normal people simply know their own lives, and their own lives are SHITTY for a large proportion of the population. There are always areas and groups doing well enough. Even in Oklahoma in the 1930s some cities and occupations were stable. But when the majority are suffering, this idiot propaganda doesn’t persuade. It only makes people ignore the propagandist.
