Most African countries were colonies of France or England for 200 years. They started to break loose after WW2 when both of the master countries were too busy cleaning up their own Kraut damage. By 1960 all of them were post-colonial. Some managed to set up competent governments, some didn’t. Now many of the British colonies are superior in government and economy (eg Tanzania and Kenya) while most of the French are still mired in semi-competence or permanent upheaval.
We became a colony of China in 1975 when Nixon surrendered unconditionally after losing Vietnam. Since then we’ve been a resource colony and a consumer colony, providing petroleum and pork and wheat to the master, and buying the master’s leftover manufactured crap.
When do we get our post-colonial period? Would we follow the ex-British path or the ex-French path?
