One of those fun fillers at MSN gave us a bunch of things we learned in high school that turned out to be false. Since EVERYTHING we learned was false, and most of the lies were already known AT THAT TIME to be false, this is a low bar. Some of these I already caught in high school, most I learned much later. One of them went the other way: the filler’s writer learned in school that the earth’s seasons arise from the oval orbit, not from the tilt. We definitely learned about the tilt in school. Score 1 out of 100 for our teachers.
Here’s one I never heard before, and it truly surprised me. The Titanic was doomed even if it hadn’t encountered the iceberg. A fire had been burning in the hold for many days and nobody had bothered to put it out or tell the passengers. This redoubles the theme of stupid arrogance that was already part of the original iceberg “information”.
