Movies are more honest

Random thought.

The movie and theater industries are dishonest in many ways, but both are the MOST honest forms of art in one way. Plays about making plays, and movies about making movies, have always been common. Both industries seem to enjoy displaying how the sausage is cooked. We aren’t encouraged to believe that Walt Disney drew all the cartoons by himself, or Orson Welles did all the writing and acting and camera work by himself.

Other areas of art and science and technology have always cultivated the myth of the solo painter or solo inventor or solo composer, slaving away day and night to create massive quantities of paintings or symphonies or books with his own mind and hands. There are solo performers in each field, but the most prolific have always been studios or workshops, with the big-name front man going out and selling while the apprentices or slaves or employees churn out the actual paintings or devices.
