The NFT scam is still running, though it’s obviously running on a digital manifestation of an expression of a hyperlink to a mention of vapors.
These people are trying to sell the concept to artists by treating art as “a manifestation of an expression of who I am”. In some vaporous way, NFTs help to identify “your data” as “yourself”.
When I make something, whether it’s a sandwich or an animation, the very LAST thing I want is an “expression of who I am”. “Who I am” is a cranky ugly old man. There are more than enough “expressions” of cranky ugly old men in the world, especially in politics.
When I make a sandwich, it’s expressing taste and nutrition. It’s expressing starch and protein.
When I make an animation, it’s expressing the way something works. It’s expressing the tensor tympani or a telegraph or the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Neither of these purposes has any connection with “my data”, whatever that means, or “who I am”, whatever that means.
Do aspiring artists want to express “who I am”? I doubt it.
