One specific fact

When I read Naomi Wolf’s latest poetic lament on our modern hell, I wrote a quick passionate assent to her main point. She was saying that demons certainly exist.

I wrote that demons have always been about 1% of the population, but before 1980 they were kept in asylums and prisons. Now they occupy all positions of power.

I wasn’t thinking of facts, just expressing an instant passion. Later I realized there’s ONE SPECIFIC FACT behind the timeline.

In the late 70s and early 80s the ‘inmate rights’ movement, also known as deinstitutionalization, was tearing down the asylums and releasing their inmates onto the streets. This project was boosted by both R and D politicians, with Reagan and Teddy Kennedy at its head.

Inmate rights were just the latest version of the vicious Machiavellian “rights” trick, first developed to free predatory capitalists from their feudal obligation to support the workers. Capitalists gained the “right” to kill peasants, and peasants gained the “right” to die.

Now the “rights” trick has gone all the way, with unhappy or unwanted people gaining the openly stated “right” to die when commanded by Public Death Officials.
