Random thought triggered by Desistance, probably wrong.
I wonder if we’re seeing a sort of natural Desistance from government. This year MANY young and competent and less partisan people are leaving Congress and leaving the federal bureaucracy. Each of them has expressed disgust and weariness with the utterly pointless institution.
This will purify the monstrosity. The government will WANT to do even more evil without any internal negative feedback.
BUT the few comparatively talented and non-senile people are gone, so the RESOURCES of the monstrosity are reduced. An institution composed solely of senile infantile crazies isn’t capable of adapting to new situations, so it will collapse faster now, like the senile crazies of medieval monarchies.
That’s the purpose of Desistance. Deprive the monsters of RESOURCES and TALENT. The federal monster can always print more money, though at the moment Powell is the best Desistor of all, holding the faucet closed as long as he’s in office.
