Vintage.es has a pictorial feature on the ’58 Facel Vega. The front end is the perfect arrangement of quad headlights and a vertical grille. Those were the required elements for the Edsel. Facel proves that a perfect design fitting the requirements was AVAILABLE in ’58. Ford didn’t have to pick the Cunt In Front design.
The rest of the Facel is less satisfying to my eyes. The wraparound windshield was NOT a necessary element, and the car would have looked better without it. The back looks too much like a ’54 Olds. One of Ghia’s semi-production dream cars using the same Hemi engine had the perfect backside, which would have matched the Facel’s front.
The interior is stunning, but obviously wouldn’t have been suitable for a low-priced family car, so it’s not relevant.
