Most of our institutions have rejected their own customers.
This is described as a problem. In most cases it’s not a problem at all.
When a business (eg Bud Light) offends its customers, the pressure of profit corrects the error. As long as QE/ZIRP was providing endless cash input via Share Value, the natural feedback was suppressed. Now that QE/ZIRP is gone, the invisible hand is nicely visible, and the rejecters are trying to bring back the customers. Thanks, Powell! No problem.
When a church rejects its Christian customers, informal “non-denominational” churches and other organizations take up the slack. Churches have always competed with bars and restaurants and secular associations like lodges and unions. In earlier eras the churches were able to suppress the alternatives via Blue Laws and Prohibition. Now they can’t, and the alternatives are flourishing. No problem.
“Journalism” has violently rejected its customers. Tiktok, Facebook, Substack, Youtube, Rumble…. MANY alternatives have replaced everything newspapers and major media formerly offered. The replacements are UNARGUABLY BETTER than the old institution. No problem at all.
When the major league sport of Voteball rejects its customers, we have a real problem. There’s no replacement for government. When 2/3 of the people give up on both teams, the only alternative is revolution, which inevitably leads to an even worse government. Problem!
