Kucinich is running for Congress again. I like and admire him, but he seems to have fallen behind the times. He wants to be a Unifier Not Divider by increasing discussion between the parties. This might have been useful before 1990. Parties aren’t the problem now.
As I was saying in previous item, civilization depends on WORK in the strict sense. When you’re trying to MAKE SOMETHING or PROVIDE A REAL SERVICE that will be PAID FOR by real PEOPLE, you will discuss PRODUCTIVELY.
Congress no longer does any WORK. Uniquely among our fucked institutions, Congress has slowly and steadily ELIMINATED ALL OF ITS OWN PRODUCTS AND SERVICES. The scrubbing started in 1803 when the Supremes nabbed the task of amending the constitution and Congress never grabbed it back. Since 1970, Congress has enacted a huge pile of internal rules and laws that fence off its assigned tasks, intentionally preventing ITSELF from performing its own duties. Nearly all budget items are off-limits, guaranteeing perpetual increase without any negative feedback.
After offshoring every possible product and service, it’s no surprise that Congress is nothing but a grotesque soap opera.

Footnote on Uniquely: The other fucked institutions have fallen into the Parkinson trap naturally, without intentionally discarding their own purpose. Public education was meant to solve one specific problem, bringing new immigrants up to literacy standards in English. After the original flow of immigrants was absorbed, the problem was solved, so education found other fake “problems” to continue its budget. Journalism is not a Parkinson victim. Its sole purpose from the start was creating wars and riots and crimes so it can “cover” the wars and riots and crimes. It continues to fulfill its own assigned task admirably. Science was at least partly meant to solve real problems, but it was steered by tenure and Deepstate grants into making more war and riots and chaos. Art was meant to provide beauty, but it was steered etc.
