I was an ugly kid and my parents were fairly attractive. I knew that their advice and reassurances were wrong, but there were no alternative advisors. Meritocracy and behaviorism were UNIVERSAL AND UNQUESTIONABLE at that time. Now there’s a wider recognition that PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT, and wider availability of accurate advice for unpopular people.
