Part of the bitcoin gospel, and the Tech Tyrant gospel in general, is the “benefit” of Open Source at every level. Supposedly a codebase maintained by unpaid and overworked hobbyists will automatically be better and more secure than a codebase kept within careful bounds by a business that owns and guards the rights.
Via Protos, open source shows its superiority yet again. Hackers have leaked the source code for the idiotic useless bitcoin ATMs used by El Salvador’s fake bitcoin-based currency. Protos lists a long list of hacks and scams involved with the same fake currency.
No hacker has ever leaked the Cobol source code used by real banks. Wonder why?
In fairness, Bukele has done ONE MASSIVELY GOOD THING along with his fake currency. He has ARRESTED AND IMPRISONED MOST OF THE COUNTRY’S GANGSTERS, so normal people can live their lives in a normal way, conducting business with non-open-source paper dollars.
