WPA definitely employed white-collar workers who had been discarded along with the skilled laborers when Wall Street bombed America down to bedrock.
Stirred up a thought. The Marshall Plan was based on the New Deal. Marshall was rebuilding and restoring and resettling Europe after the Krauts bombed it down to bedrock. FDR was rebuilding and restoring and resettling America after the stock market bombed it down to bedrock.
FDR started by disarming the enemy so it couldn’t start bombing us again. He closed the banks on his first day in office. Our later occupation of Germany started the same way, followed by similar reconstruction. By that time Deepstate was in charge of our media, so we lied about our purpose. We told our own people that we were stopping RUSSIANAGGRESSION, which was a vicious myth then and now. RUSSIA HAS NEVER ATTACKED US. Our soldiers in Germany knew what they were doing and who they were really blocking.
The wording of the New Deal was full of RE words. Recovery, resettlement, restoration, reclamation, reconstruction.
The initial enabling law stated the overall problem clearly, without exactly naming the bomber.
= = = = = START QUOTE:
A national emergency productive of widespread unemployment and disorganization of industry, which burdens interstate and foreign commerce, affects the public welfare, and undermines the standards of living of the American people, is hereby declared to exist.

The solution was crafted to fit into provisions of the “constitution” as much as possible, but the Supremes, serving Wall Street as always, decided this wasn’t good enough. The law was rewritten later.
= = = = = START QUOTE:
It is hereby declared to be the policy of Congress to remove obstructions to the free flow of interstate and foreign commerce which tend to diminish the amount thereof; and to provide for the general welfare by promoting the organization of industry for the purpose of cooperative action among trade groups, to induce and maintain united action of labor and management under adequate governmental sanctions and supervision, to eliminate unfair competitive practices, to promote the fullest possible utilization of the present productive capacity of industries, to avoid undue restriction of production (except as may be temporarily required), to increase the consumption of industrial and agricultural products by increasing purchasing power, to reduce and relieve unemployment, to improve standards of labor, and otherwise to rehabilitate industry and to conserve natural resources.
= = = = = END QUOTE.
Wow, a lot to unpack there, as every podcast says nowadays. Some of the packing is camouflage, perhaps to smuggle the real goods through Congress? Most is a blazingly clear statement of purpose.
Unpacking:
(1) Remove obstructions to the free flow of foreign trade. This sounds like globalism, but the rest of the law gives the real meaning, which is properly nationalist. If any foreign country starts ‘dumping’ or undercutting our industries, the Tariff Commission is authorized to stop it.
(2) Induce and maintain cooperation of labor and management. This sounds like forcing unions to buckle under, but the rest of the law says the opposite. The government has authority to stop businesses from colluding to cut wages.
(3) Promote the fullest utilization of productive capacity. No mirrors here. This is populism at its best, stated frankly and clearly. The economy should be CREATING AND PRODUCING, using the talents and skills of OUR workers, not the talents and skills of math freaks** running financial frauds. Graybill.
(4) Increase consumption by increasing purchasing power. Henry Ford. Pay the workers enough to buy the cars they make. I’ve always been puzzled by Henry’s hatred for the New Deal, since the New Deal was working in perfect parallel with his own efforts.
(5) Rehabilitate industry and conserve natural resources. The two basic purposes of the New Deal. Farmers were wasting natural resources because they were driven by Wall Street speculation. Henry Wallace helped farmers to use their skills better, and the securities laws clamped down on the speculators.
The blasphemous “green” “new” “deal” twists and perverts all of these purposes to enrich the rich and kill the poor, like everything else that happens now.

** Serendipitous pun. ‘Math freaks’ sounds like ‘meth freaks’, and the Tech Tyrants are both!
